Global Taiping Festival and Lion Dance Competition Recognised by Malaysia Book of Records

The Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition 2022 that is being held, have successfully attained an entry into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR). The achievement was obtained for the record of Highest Registered Visitor Attendance for a Lion Dance Competition, held at the Taiping Mall.

According to MBOR Office Manager, Lee Pooi Leng, the record is the first in Malaysia in terms of visitor attendance, within two days of the festival.

“We look at many categories, including how many days it is organised and the date.

“Because we set a benchmark of 8,000 but they broke the record by selling all the tickets for the entry of 10,000 visitors to the festival, within just two days.

She said this in a press conference after presenting the MBOR plaque of recognition to the organisers at the Dinner and Prize Presentation Ceremony in conjunction with the Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition 2022, last night.

Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Dato’ Mohammed Radzi was present to officiate the event. This festival was organised by 6 Sense Group together with Koperasi Waris and Kerabat Raja Negeri Perak Berhad. Also present, and leading the lion dance competition aspect was the Chairman of the Lion Dance Performance (LDP) International Council, Francis Teo with the support of the Hong Teik Association.

Nolee Ashilin when met said that the Global Taiping Festival and Lion Dance Competition brought together more than 300 participants from six countries.

“The six countries are from Malaysia, Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.

She said her side sees the potential of this festival to be made into an annual event in the future.

“We also managed to break the record with 10,000 admission tickets or the attendance of 10,000 people within two days, the highest in Taiping city.

“God willing, I hope we can integrate this event with cultural understanding, especially in Malaysia.

“As it has been done in Terengganu, the lion dance is not limited to only the Chinese but can be expanded to other races, for cultural sports,” she said.

Meanwhile, Taiping Global Festival Chairman, Raja Omar Ikram Raja Abdullah Omar, who also acts as an organiser, said that Taiping was chosen as the venue for this competition, in line with its image of being the ‘first’ in Malaysia.

“When we discussed in Ipoh, many people asked where this festival should be held, so we chose this heritage city.

“There are many firsts in Taiping, so this will also be a first in Taiping in particular and Perak in general.

“God willing, for the year 2024, we will gather more participants from many countries after this,” he said.

The three-day event since Friday saw the team from Singapore take first place in the Lion Dance competition.

Second place went to Indonesian participants, Third and Fourth from Malaysia while the rest got consolation prizes.

First place received RM10,000, Second place RM5,000 while Third and Fourth place took home RM4,000.

Taiping To Be Positioned As An International Tourist Destination

The Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition 2022 to be held at Dataran Warisan in Taiping from 23rd until 25th September 2022, will shine the global spotlight on Taiping, the Town of Everlasting Peace.

This iconic event will attract at least 500 foreign participants through various roles, such as judges, officials, lion dance contestants and guests. To date, 15 international lion dance troupes have already confirmed their entries. They are from Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. More will confirm their arrival at a later date while waiting for COVID-19 travel restrictions to ease. 15 Malaysian troupes have also indicated their participation. Competing lion dance troupes will showcase their skills in acrobatic high-pole dance. 

This inaugural Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition 2022 is the first global event of this scale, yet another “first” for this “town of many firsts”. According to Tourism Perak CEO Puan Nurmalis Musa, Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition could well be an annual event depending on the reception by the community and support from relevant organisations.

This was revealed at the logo and website launch of the event at MH Hotel Ipoh last evening (4th Aug) by the Tourism Perak CEO, who represented State Tourism Committee Chairperson YB Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Binti Mohammed Radzi.

On the left of the logo is Puteri Perak, a pants-clad dancer in the colours of the Perak state flag of white, yellow and black. She is also adorned with a tiara to depict her status as a princess. Meanwhile, on the right of the logo shows two lion dance contestants in colours of the Malaysian flag Jalur Gemilang (red, white, blue and yellow), to indicate Malaysia hosting a local multicultural competition for a global audience.

As a whole, the logo presents a celebratory flair that showcases the multi-culturalism-laced festival intertwined with a competition rich in heritage, culture, arts, and nature of Taiping, on a world stage.

The Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition 2022 is organised by Six Sense Group, with co-participation from Koperasi Waris dan Kerabat Raja Negeri Perak Berhad, and in partnership with Mr. SA Peter and Puan Rohaida Abdul Kahar.

Festival Global Taiping dan Pertandingan Tarian Singa 2022

IPOH- Bandar Taping yang juga dikenali sebagai Bandar Warisan bakal dibanjiri ratusan tetamu luar negara bagi menyaksikan Festival Global Taiping dan Pertandingan Tarian Singa 2022.

Festival yang julung kali diadakan itu, bakal disertai lebih 500 orang peserta dari beberapa negara di Asia Tenggara.Ketua Eksekutif Tourism Perak, Nur Malis Musa berkata kehadiran para peserta itu akan memainkan pelbagai peranan antaranya penghakiman, pengawai, peserta mempersembahkan tarian singa dan sebagai tetamu.

“Setakat ini, sebanyak 15 kumpulan tarian singa antarabangsa telah mengesahkan penyertaan antaranya dari Singapura, Vietnam, Thailand dan Indonesia.

“Juga difahamkan, penyertaan akan bertambah dari masa ke semasa mengikut perkembangan terkini COVID-19 berkaitan kelonggaran sekatan perjalanan pintu masuk negara.

“Malaysia juga telah menyatakan penyertaan sejumlah 15 kumpulan yang bakal mempamerkan kemahiran aktobatik dan kesenian tarian singa”, katanya dalam sidang media mewakli Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Tempatan dan Pelancongan Perak, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohammad Radzi, sempena Majlis Pelancaran Pesta Global Taiping Dan Pertandingan Tarian Singa di Hotel MH, di sini semalam.

Nurmalis berkata, festival ini berpotensi besar untuk dijadikan acara tahunan namun ianya bergantung kepada sambutan masyarakat dan sokongan daripada organisasi-organisasi yang terlibat.

“Ini adalah festival pertama dianjurkan di Bandar Warisan Taiping yang banyak melakar sejarah ‘pertama’ di negara ini. Oleh yang demikian ia berupaya menarik ramai pelancongan tempatan dan antarabangsa. Ia akan dilangsungkan di Dataran Warisan.

Taiping to Host Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition 2022

Taiping, known for being a heritage town, will soon be flooded with hundreds of foreign guests to witness the Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition 2022, which are to be held at Dataran Warisan.

This inaugural festival will be attended by more than 500 participants from several countries in Southeast Asia. Tourism Perak CEO, Nurmalis Musa said the presence of the participants will play various roles including judges, conductors, participants for performing the lion dance and as guests.

“So far, a total of 15 international lion dance groups have confirmed their participation including those from Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.

“It is also understood that participation will increase from time to time according to the latest developments of COVID-19 as related to the relaxation of travel restrictions at the country’s entrance.

“Malaysia has also announced the participation of a total of 15 groups that will showcase their acrobatics and lion dance skills”, he said in a press conference representing the Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohammad Radzi, in conjunction with the Launching Ceremony of the Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition in Hotel MH yesterday.

Before that, Nurmalis officiated the Launch of the Logo and Website of the Global Taping Festival and Lion Dance Competition. The design of the logo showcases the elements of multi-ethnic celebrations as well as the culture, heritage, art and nature of Taiping.

Nurmalis said that this festival has great potential to become an annual event but it depends on the response of the community and support from the organizations involved.

“This festival is organized by Six Sense Group together with Koperasi Waris and Kerabat Raja Negeri Perak Berhad.
